A total of 27 individuals, among them 10 children, sustained injuries following a bus accident reported near the Viyanini canal area in Mahiyanganaya earlier today.
According to local police sources, the incident occurred due to a sudden brake failure. The quick-thinking driver managed to avoid plunging the bus into the nearby canal by veering off course and colliding with a roadside utility pole instead.
All injured passengers were promptly transported to the Mahiyanganaya Hospital for treatment. Authorities have confirmed that none of the victims are currently in critical condition.
Investigations into the mechanical failure and other contributing factors are underway.
