The Government of Nepal has officially imposed a ban on the messaging platform Telegram, following growing concerns over its use in illegal activities such as online scams and money laundering.
The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) released a statement on Friday instructing all internet service providers to block access to the app without delay. The decision was made in response to the platform being increasingly exploited for fraudulent purposes.
“In light of the misuse of Telegram for financial crimes and online deception, internet providers are hereby instructed to restrict access immediately,” the NTA said in its announcement.
This move comes as part of the country’s broader efforts to combat cybercrime and enhance digital security for its citizens.
