After ten years and two heartbreaking final defeats, Singapore’s netball team has reclaimed their place at the top of Asian netball with a thrilling 67-64 overtime win against Sri Lanka in the Asian Netball Championship final. Held at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru, Singapore fought tenaciously to capture their fourth Asian title, last won in 2014.
Captain Toh Kai Wei shared her joy, saying, “This is something we targeted all year. It’s even sweeter to beat them after two previous final losses. This win proves we’re the best in Asia.”
Singapore led early with goal shooter Lee Pei Shan’s 12 goals in the first quarter, ending it 17-12. However, six-time champions Sri Lanka surged back, led by Thishala Algama’s 50 goals, taking a slim lead into the final stretch. Yet Singapore found their rhythm late, with Toh and Amandeep Chahal stepping up in extra time, outscoring Sri Lanka 15-12 to secure victory.
Coach Yeo Mee Hong praised her team’s composure and adaptability, emphasizing that Singapore’s focus now turns to the upcoming 2025 SEA Games and the Nations Cup.
