Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) paid tribute to veteran batsman Dimuth Karunaratne for achieving a historic milestone—playing 100 Test matches.
Karunaratne reached this remarkable feat during the ongoing Test series against Australia. To commemorate this achievement, a special ceremony was held just before the second Test match.
The event was attended by key figures in the cricketing world, including Dr. Jayantha Dharmadasa, SLC’s Vice President of International Cricket; Sanath Jayasuriya, Head Coach of the Sri Lanka National Men’s Team; Dhananjaya de Silva, Sri Lanka’s Test Captain; Steve Smith, Australia’s Test Captain; and Charith Asalanka, Sri Lanka’s White-Ball Captain. Also present were National Team Manager Mahinda Halangode, Sri Lankan players, and support staff.
Dimuth Karunaratne’s family, including his parents, joined him to celebrate this proud moment.
As a token of appreciation, cricketing legend Sanath Jayasuriya, one of only seven Sri Lankans to have played 100 Test matches, presented Karunaratne with his commemorative 100th Test cap. Additionally, on behalf of Sri Lanka Cricket, Dr. Jayantha Dharmadasa awarded him a special plaque and a gift in recognition of his invaluable contribution to Sri Lankan cricket.
