Sri Lanka Police Lifeguards Rescue Four Russian Tourists from Drowning in Separate Incidents

Police lifeguards in Sri Lanka successfully rescued four Russian tourists from drowning in two separate incidents along the country’s southwestern coast on February 6, according to authorities.

The first rescue took place in the evening at Ahungalla Beach when a 38-year-old Russian man was caught in strong currents. Quick action by the Ahungalla Police Lifeguard Unit, led by Inspector Manoj Ariyarathna and supported by Constables Sangeeth and Kumar, ensured his safe recovery.

Earlier in the morning, three Russian tourists—a 27-year-old woman and two men aged 42 and 71—found themselves struggling in turbulent waters at Hikkaduwa Beach. Officers from the Hikkaduwa Police Lifeguard Unit, including Sub-Inspector Sirimal and Constables Duminda, Kumar, and Jayasinghe, swiftly intervened to bring them to safety.

Fortunately, all four individuals escaped unharmed, highlighting the crucial role of police lifeguards in safeguarding beachgoers along Sri Lanka’s coastline.
