After 23 years of connecting people around the world, Skype, the popular video-calling service, is shutting down. Microsoft, the parent company, confirmed that the official sunset date for the service is May 5, 2025.
Before May 5, Skype users can sign in to Teams for free using their Skype credentials. Once logged in, all their chats and contacts will automatically transfer to the app. Teams offers features similar to Skype, including messaging, file sharing, and video calls. However, it’s designed for larger groups (up to 10,000 participants) and has stronger security and business integrations like OneDrive, Office 365, and Trello.
Teams is available on Android, iOS, Mac, PC, and the web.
Users have two options
Download Your Skype Data – If you prefer a different video-calling app, you can save your chat history and contacts before the shutdown.
Switch to Microsoft Teams – Sign in with your Skype credentials before May 5, and your chats and contacts will move automatically.
