
A 35-year-old Chinese woman sustained severe injuries after falling from a moving train near the 19th railway tunnel in Idalgashinna earlier today (09).
The accident took place while she was traveling along the upcountry railway route from Nanu Oya to Badulla. Reports indicate that she had been leaning out of the train when her head struck the tunnel wall, leading to the fall.
Following the incident, she was initially rushed to the Haputale Regional Hospital before being transferred to the Diyatalawa Base Hospital for further medical attention. Later, she was moved to the Badulla Teaching Hospital for specialized treatment.
Medical sources confirm that the woman has sustained critical head and leg injuries, with her condition remaining serious.
She was first transported by train after the accident and later transferred via the 1990 Suwa Seriya ambulance service for emergency care.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
