In a shocking incident, underworld gang leader Sanjeewa Kumara Samararatne, also known as “Ganemulla Sanjeewa,” was shot dead inside the Aluthkade Court Complex earlier today, according to police reports.
Following the shooting, he was immediately rushed to the Emergency Unit of Colombo National Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). However, he later succumbed to his injuries.
Ganemulla Sanjeewa was transported from Boossa Prison to the Aluthkade High Court this morning (February 19) for a scheduled court hearing. The attack occurred shortly after he was placed inside the courtroom’s dock for defendants.
Investigations have revealed that the assailant, disguised as a lawyer, approached the defendant’s dock and opened fire before fleeing the scene. Authorities are currently conducting a manhunt to track down the suspect.
