Luxury "Ella Odyssey Nanu Oya" Train Service Launches on Nanu Oya-Badulla Route

Under the leadership of Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation Bimal Ratnayake, Sri Lanka Railways has introduced a new luxury train service, “Ella Odyssey Nanu Oya,” to cater to the increasing demand from both local and international tourists. This service officially commenced operations today (February 10) on the Nanu Oya-Badulla route.

Train Schedule & Seating Options

Speaking to the media, General Manager of Railways Dhammika Jayasundara stated that the new train service consists of S14 compartments and operates daily except on Tuesdays. The train departs from Nanu Oya at 8:10 AM and arrives in Badulla, with the return journey starting at 1:00 PM from Badulla back to Nanu Oya.

Passengers can choose from three seating classes based on their preference and budget:

  • First Class Reserved (AFC): LKR 7,000
  • Second Class Reserved (SCR): LKR 6,000
  • Third Class Reserved (TCR): LKR 5,000

Scenic Experience & Tourist Attractions

To enhance the sightseeing experience, the train will slow down at key tourist attractions, including the famous Elgin Falls and Summit Level. Additionally, it will make two special stops for passengers to explore:

  • Idalgashinna Railway Station – 6-minute stop
  • Nine Arches Bridge – 10-minute stop

The introduction of the Ella Odyssey Nanu Oya train aims to further promote railway tourism along the upcountry route and contribute to the growth of the local tourism industry.
