During the grand celebrations of Sri Lanka’s 77th Independence Day at Independence Square, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized the urgent need for collective national efforts to attain genuine economic, social, and cultural freedom.
“In our journey towards true independence, every citizen must actively contribute to achieving economic, social, and cultural empowerment,” the President stated, urging all sectors to reaffirm their dedication to national progress.
Highlighting his vision for a prosperous Sri Lanka, President Dissanayake pledged to shape a nation that nurtures pride and opportunity for its people, driven by advancements in science, technology, and intellectual growth. He also stressed the importance of addressing deep-rooted social injustices, calling on Sri Lankans to unite in their pursuit of economic self-sufficiency without succumbing to external pressures.
“The nation we build will not simply be one we inherit, but one that future generations will cherish—a country that upholds the dignity of its people while excelling in scientific, technological, and intellectual progress,” he affirmed.
The President further stated that while Sri Lanka may not be the wealthiest nation in the world, it has the potential to be the richest in national spirit, equality, and freedom.
“Even if Sri Lanka cannot claim the title of the richest nation, we have the capacity to be the richest in unity, equality, and true freedom,” he declared.
As Sri Lanka moves forward, the President’s address underscored the importance of national solidarity in building a just and thriving society.
