Reliable political sources indicate that Ranil Wickremesinghe, leader of the New Democratic Front (NDF), is expected to assume a parliamentary seat by the end of this year.
According to these sources, one of the two current MPs representing the NDF on the national list has agreed to resign voluntarily, paving the way for Wickremesinghe’s entry into Parliament.
Growing Political Support for Wickremesinghe’s Return
Reports suggest that several opposition MPs are preparing to align with Wickremesinghe upon his return to Parliament. Various political groups have already invited him to re-enter parliamentary politics, with formal proposals put forward to facilitate his comeback.
During a recent visit to Galle, local residents urged Wickremesinghe to rejoin Parliament and serve the people. In response, he reportedly stated, “Be patient for a little while,” hinting at his future plans.
Strategic Moves in Sri Lankan Politics
These developments strongly indicate that the former Prime Minister is actively planning a political comeback. Additionally, political analysts believe he is working behind the scenes to bring back the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) under the United National Party (UNP) umbrella, setting the stage for a significant shift in the country’s political landscape.
