Sri Lanka to Clear Backlog of 130,000 Driving Licenses Within a Month, Says Deputy Minister

Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways, Dr. Prasanna Kumara Gunasena, announced that the government will expedite the printing and distribution of 130,000 delayed driving licenses within the next month. The delays, which have accumulated over time, will now be addressed through streamlined processes to ensure efficient service delivery.

Speaking during an unannounced inspection visit to the Werahera premises of the Department of Motor Traffic, the Deputy Minister emphasized that steps are being taken to digitize and streamline operations within the department. He noted that modernizing the services through online mechanisms is a priority to prevent such backlogs in the future.

The visit was also attended by Deputy Minister of Ports and Aviation, Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, who joined in assessing the ongoing challenges and discussing solutions to enhance service quality.

This initiative aims to alleviate the frustration of citizens who have been waiting for their driving licenses and to improve the overall efficiency of the Department of Motor Traffic.
