After resigning from this position, he founded Stassen Exports on September 7, 1977, marking a new chapter in Sri Lanka’s tea export industry.
By 1988, his business conglomerate became a major shareholder in Hatton National Bank (HNB), one of Sri Lanka’s leading private banks. In 1992, he expanded his business empire further by acquiring a controlling stake in Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka (DCSL) in what was then the largest transaction in the Colombo Stock Exchange.
By 2007, under his leadership, DCSL was ranked Sri Lanka’s No.1 company by Business Today.
