Three Presidential Candidates Fail to Submit Campaign Finance Reports

The Election Commission has announced that three candidates in the recent Presidential Election failed to submit their campaign income and expenditure reports by the required deadline. These candidates are

  • Ven. Battaramulle Seelarathana Thero
  • Sarath Keerthiratne
  • Pakkiya Selvam Ariyanethiran.

Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake stated that these individuals missed the deadline, which expired at midnight on Sunday, October 13, 2024, per the Election Expenditure Regulatory Act, No. 3 of 2023. Out of the 38 candidates who contested, 35 complied by submitting their reports on time.

Failure to meet this requirement incurs a fine of Rs. 100,000, and the Election Commission has confirmed that legal proceedings will commence against the non-compliant candidates. As stipulated by election law, all presidential candidates must submit these financial reports within 21 days following the announcement of election results.
