
A deadly incident unfolded in western India on Wednesday, as a bridge spanning a river in Gujarat suddenly gave way, leading to the deaths of at least nine individuals, according to local authorities cited by Press Trust of India.
Rushikesh Patel, the Health Minister of Gujarat, confirmed that multiple vehicles were crossing the structure when it partially collapsed, plunging several people into the water below. Emergency crews managed to save at least five people from the river, as search and rescue operations continue in the area.
Officials are yet to confirm the total number of people affected, while investigations into the cause of the collapse are underway.
